How to Change a Tyre
Changing a tyre can seem like a daunting task, but with the right tools and knowledge, it's actually a simple process. Here are the steps to change a tyre:
1. Find a safe location, make sure you're parked in a safe location away from traffic, with the handbrake engaged.
2. Prepare the car, turn on the hazard lights and place a warning triangle behind the vehicle.
3. Gather the necessary tools, you'll need a spare tyre, a jack, and a lug wrench.
4. Loosen the lug nuts, use the lug wrench to loosen the lug nuts on the tyre you want to replace. Turn them counter clockwise ½ turn, but don't remove them yet.
5. Jack up the car, locate the jacking point nearest the tyre you're replacing, and position the jack under it. Raise the car until the tyre is about 3 cm off the ground.
6. Remove the lug nuts, using the lug wrench, remove the lug nuts and pull the tyre off.
7. Mount the spare tyre, line up the spare tyre with the wheel studs and push it onto the hub. Tighten the lug nuts by hand.
8. Lower the car back to the ground using the jack.
9. Tighten the lug nuts, use the lug wrench to tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern, working across from one lug nut to the opposite one until they're all snug.
10. Lower the car back to the ground completely and check the tightness of the lug nuts again.
Remember to have the punctured tyre repaired or replaced as soon as possible and never drive on a spare tyre for an extended period of time.
