WOF Failure Reasons

In New Zealand, a Warrant of Fitness (WOF) inspection is required for all vehicles older than three years, and it needs to be renewed every six months or annually depending on the age of the vehicle. The WOF inspection is designed to ensure that vehicles on the road are safe for drivers, passengers, and other road users. There are several reasons why a car may fail its WOF inspection in New Zealand, including:

Worn or damaged tyres: If the tyres on the car are worn or damaged, it may cause the car to fail the WOF inspection. The tires need to have adequate tread depth of 1.5mm and be free of any cracks, bulges, or punctures.

Brakes: The brakes are an essential safety feature in any vehicle, and if they are not working correctly, the car will fail its WOF inspection. The brake pads and discs need to be in good condition, and there should be no leaks in the brake system.

Lights and indicators: The lights and indicators on the car need to be in working order, including the headlights, taillights, brake lights, and indicators. Any blown bulbs or faulty wiring can result in a WOF failure.

Suspension: The suspension system of the car needs to be in good condition and not have any worn or damaged components that can affect the handling of the vehicle.

Seat belts: All seat belts in the car need to be in working order, including the retractors and buckles. If any of the seat belts are damaged, the car will fail the WOF inspection.

Exhaust: The exhaust system of the car needs to be in good condition, and there should be no leaks or excessive noise levels.

These are just a few of the most common reasons why a car may fail its WOF inspection in New Zealand. It is essential to keep your vehicle well-maintained and ensure that it meets all safety requirements to pass the WOF inspection.
